Pennsylvania Constitution:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the State shall not be questioned. Art. 1, § 21 (enacted
1790, art. IX, § 21). 1776: That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the state; and as
standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; And that the military should
be kept under strict subordination, to, and governed by, the civil power. Declaration of Rights, cl. XIII. [Self-defense right protected, Sayres v. Commonwealth, 88 Pa. 291 (1879).]
US Constitution, Second Amendment: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people
to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. [Individual's right to keep and carry protected 2008 Supreme Court ruling]
It is based on these fundamental precepts that local and national organizations, being coordinated by local college students,
will come together to celebrate their constitutionally protected individual right to keep and bear arms. Currently in its
early planning stages this gala is to be held in Fall of 2009, at a location yet to be determined. We are counting on your
help and support to make a good showing that current and future generations revere our civil liberties. You can count on us
as American citizens from all walks of life, heading towards a variety of careers and futures, to do everything in our power
to uphold those civil liberties.
Recent shootings, including a recent
officer shooting in Pittsburgh, highlight the need to promote safe gun ownership instead of allowing emotional responses to
cloud our judgement and allow us to sacrifice liberty for a misplaced idea of safety.

Mission Statement
The event, planned for Fall of 2009, will include light refreshments, speaking guests, educational materials, freebies,
games, and prizes! This will be a memorable combination of class, activism, and fun for the whole family; We encourage you
to bring children and family, and hope to find a venue that will not force us to disarm before entry - which is why we're
forced to incur rental fees rather than rely on campus facilities at our disposal, due to the restriction on campuses that
is the core issue of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, the organization that planted this seed of patriotism among students
here in the city of Pittsburgh.

Perhaps the city of bridges can bridge the gap between uninformed biases and the truth. More guns does not equal more
violence. As one of the only goods produced in the US the only blanket statement that could be made beginning with the words
"More guns" would end in something like "will bolster the economy."
